Serendipity....
Juan was born in Zacatecas Mexico, and immigrated to the United States in 1987. He found work in a Vietnamese restaurant and while there, learned to cook and create from scratch. A few life turns later, Juan came to live and work in Tehachapi. It is here 
in our mountain community that he began to dream of one day, having his own restaurant and the opportunity to share his love of food with his newly adopted hometown.
It is also here that Juan met Yolanda while working at a local restaurant. Yolanda was born in Tehachapi Hospital, and is a proud Tehachapi High School alumnus. Her parents, immigrants who worked in the orchards and vineyards in the surrounding communities, strived to raise her well. While not exactly love at first sight, Yolanda’s zest for life caught Juan’s eye and it was not too awfully long before his charm and determination won her over. In 1996, they made their union official and embarked on their woven journey. They recognized a mutual passion for excellence in one another and made the decision to pursue Juan’s dream of having his own eatery. The idea of Don Juan’s was born.
The dream comes true....
Juan and Yolanda wanted to create something different and tantalizing, so they chose Latin America as their inspiration. With endless culinary avenues and a culture that celebrates the love of food, wine and life, it was a natural fit. So Juan went to work using his natural palate for great taste (he does not use recipes), his culinary education, the many mentors’ lessons, and self taught skills to develop a truly unique menu. Yolanda embraced the business side of the operation and put her California State University Bakersfield education to good use as the operational manager. And it finally happened. The dream came true. They have taken extraordinary measures to ensure a delicious Latin infused adventure, one you’ll want to savor time and time again. Be it their Latin flair, the dedicated staff, or the soul and passion poured into creating Don Juan’s, they hope you’ll be enchanted by all it has to offer. They appreciate good food and great people from all walks of life and invite you to share that sentiment at Don Juan’s.
Juan and Yolanda have spent the majority of their working years in the service industry. They know that for any business to thrive, the customer must come first. That is why they have embraced the following for their mission, their motto, their mantra - "It is all about you, the customer - for without you, we are nothing."
